Dental Implants – What Is Implant?

Nowadays, dental implants are the undisputed best alternative to natural teeth. They are designed in the form of a tooth root to replace lost teeth in the mouth and made of titanium. Dental implants provide better speech and chewing function than traditional bridges and prostheses, but also stand out with aesthetic advantages. In cases which is the jaw bone is sufficient, dental implants which are applied with a simple operation are usually waited for 2-3 months to fuse with the bone.

    What is a dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots which is prepared from special materials in order to replace the missing teeth in the mouth. The implants are placed in the jawbone with a simple operation. In Kuşadası Lotus Oral and Dental Health Center, there are many treatments as well as dental implant treatments.

    Who Applies Dental Implants?

Implant operations are performed by jaw surgeons which is specialized in this field.

How Long is the Life of Implants?

If dental implant treatment is performed by a qualified physician and the patient has good care practice, it can be used in the mouth for life.

What are the conditions that limit dental implant application?

The implant can be applied to any patient with good general health. Implant application is not preferred in young individuals who have not completed bone development. For dental implants to be long-lasting, there must be a strong jawbone around a certain thickness and size.

If there is not enough bone, dental implants can be safely applied after augmentation by jaw surgeons to create the required bone. The limits of implant application are determined by the surgical experience of the physician and the patient’s desire.

Can Implants Be Rejected by the Body?

The implants are made of substances that do not have any side effects for the organism and have been studied for years with intensive research. These are substances that are never part of a living organism. It is not possible for the body to produce antibodies against them and reject them, as in heart and kidney transplants. If the patient does not have a disease that prevents or disrupts the healing of the wound site in general health (uncontrolled diabetes, previously taken radiotherapy, drugs affecting bone metabolism, etc.) and if the patient has performed a good oral care, taking care of all the warnings of the physician, it is hardly possible to speak of failure. It is a very successful treatment method even in risky cases. Proper surgery in implant treatment and correct prosthesis application will be sufficient for successful treatment.

    Bone Integration of Implants (Osseointegration)

The complete bone wrapping around the implant is called osseointegration. The prosthesis can be safely applied over bone-integrated implants. The healing process of the implant is known as 2 – 3 months in the lower jaw and 4 – 6 months in the upper jaw. Dr. Erdem Kaya’s clinical thesis study showed that it is possible to shorten this time too much.

The second and third days after the implant surgery, the prosthesis was completed and the success rate was 99%.  However, it may not always be possible to establish the working conditions of the clinical environment and technician team established in this study.  That’s why Dr. Erdem Kaya’s recommendation and clinical practice regarding the healing process are 2 months in the lower jaw and 3 months in the upper jaw. These processes can be lengthened and shortened specifically for the patient. In our clinic, prosthesis can be completed within 2-3 days after implant surgery and treatment can be completed (immediate loading).

Placing Implants on Jaw Bone (Step 1)

Dental implant placement can be performed under local anesthesia, general anesthesia or sedation. The patient does not feel any pain in any of these methods. Dr. Erdem Kaya performs implant operations under deep sedation and local anesthesia in his own clinic. In addition, private surgeries under contracted general hospitals under general anesthesia. You can learn more about conscious sedation and deep sedation from the services menu under Sedation and General Anesthesia.

How long does it take to place the implant?

It takes about 5-10 minutes to place an implant.

When The Patient Can  Return to Daily Life?

There is no situation that prevents the patient from continuing his / her daily life after the operation. Since the patient will not eat for 3 hours postoperatively, it is recommended that the patient be full. Toothlessness does not occur during healing. Temporary prostheses are used upon request.

    How to Maintain Implants?

The cleaning and maintenance you will apply to the prosthesis over the implant is no different from the dentures made on the tooth. Detailed information and demonstration Dr. Erdem Kaya is transferred to our patients in the last session of treatment.

Prosthesis Applied to Implant (2nd Stage)

Prosthetic teeth to be made on the implant can be applied as fixed or moving according to your needs and wishes if there are conditions that meet medical requirements.

What are the benefits of the implant?

Your healthy teeth will not be cut or abraded.

    Your prosthesis can be fixed.

If your prosthesis is preferred to be mobile; these prostheses stand firmly in the mouth and do not move during function.

Your jaw bone will be preserved, chewing function will be sufficient, the teeth will be natural and aesthetic.

Because dental implants are manufactured with high technology and the materials used are precious, the cost is higher than the conventional prostheses. It is a compulsory treatment that requires patience and the patient must show absolute compliance.

    Is there a cancer risk?

There is no evidence in the medical literature that implants cause cancer.
